I do my best to steer clear of toxic positivity. Crap like, "Just smile... just breathe...just count your blessings" is not helpful to people with chronic anxiety. In fact, it can be damaging because it reduces living with a complex medical issue to a simple, quick attitude change. However, there's nothing wrong with a bit of light and humor while we deal with hard things. Painting these birds made me laugh this morning. They both look so funny and so sweet that they really gave me a good laugh. I love them. Art journaling offers me a space to connect to all parts of my self--including the part that loves and appreciates humor! Genuine laughter is really solid self care. I highly recommend it whenever possible. Love yourself first, and laugh as often as you can. Love others, too.
Love, Cheri
