During times of stress I often get very still. I hold my body tightly, and I want a still, safe spot to wrap up under a weighted blanket. This is calming, but after a while I realize that I really need to move. It doesn’t have to be as big a leap as going to the gym, (which-ha ha ha, yeah right! lol) and (unpopular opinion to the point that I often feel I can’t even say this, cause “omg who doesn’t like that?!” but..) I don’t like going for walks. (Being forced to walk & walk proselytizing door to door for my entire childhood might’ve had an influence on that.) But gentle movement, dancing, swaying, even vacuuming which has a rhythm, can help me move into a better feeling of empowerment. The emphasis is on gentleness. An uplifting song later and I can often feel better. There is joy even when I can’t see it, even when I can’t feel it. It’s in my body. It’s in yours, too. You can fight the stress paralysis with some gentle movement toward joy. Let’s sway!
Love, Cheri
