Self-love is a phrase we hear but many of us don’t know what it looks like. For me it looks like prepping food for the week ahead of time so that I know it’s taken care of and I don’t have to worry about it. It means taking time to ground myself with art and writing. It means saying no, even when that is unpopular. It means setting boundaries with my time and my energies. It means weekly therapy. It means the freedom to grow and change whether others like it or not. It means not being perfect, and being ok with that. It means giving myself what I need when I need it. It isn’t about not loving others or being “selfish” (don’t get me started on the ways in which women are cultured to be “unselfish” to the point that we disappear into the paradigm). It’s about having full agency over what I do or do not choose. It’s about simply being allowed to be who I am at all times. It might take some introspection to find out what it means for you. I highly recommend that. Love yourself first.
Love, Cheri.
